IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME (IBS):

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a functional gastrointestinal (GI) disorder (meaning the bowel does not work as it should), characterised mostly by cramping, abdominal pain, bloating, constipation and or diarrhoea. As many as 20% of the adult population in the Western world suffer from symptoms of IBS, occurring more often in women than men. People with a functional GI disorder have frequent symptoms, but the GI tract does not become permanently damaged. In the past, IBS was called colitis, mucous colitis, spastic colon, nervous colon, and spastic bowel. The name was thankfully changed to reflect the understanding that the disorder has both physical and mental causes and is not a product of a person’s imagination.

CAUSES OF IBS
The medical fraternity feels that the exact cause of IBS is unknown, but most experts agree it is related to an increased sensitivity of the entire gut. Many people find that their signs and symptoms worsen when they eat certain foods. For instance, chocolate, milk and alcohol might cause constipation or diarrhea. Signs and symptoms are often worse or more frequent during stressful events. The gut contains the greatest concentrations of immune tissue in the body and these immune cells are also interconnected with the greatest concentration of nerves outside of the CNS (central nervous system). The gut nervous system and the central nervous system communicate all the time and this is known as the gut-brain axis. The gut is also more commonly known and recognised as the 2nd brain. The Second Brain: A Groundbreaking New Understanding of Nervous Disorders of the Stomach and Intestine: by Dr. Michael Gershon. Because women are more likely to have IBS, researchers believe that hormonal changes play a role in this condition. Many women find that signs and symptoms are worse during or around their menstrual periods. One thing everyone has in common – is heavy antibiotic treatment prior to the symptoms developing, which does lead one down the road of gut dysbyosis or an imbalance in the pro-biotic levels in the GI tract, leading to further food sensitivities, less absorption and assimilation of nutrients, and then a breakdown of cellular repair due to loss of nutrients.

IBS AND PROBIOTICS
IBS is the most common diagnosis in gastroenterology. Supplementation with a blend of Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, L. rhamnosus Lc705, Propionibacterium shermanii and Bifidobacterium lactis was shown to improve abdominal symptoms of IBS, quality of life, intestinal microbiota and inflammatory markers of IBS. Bifidobacterium infantis as well as Lactobacillus plantarum are additional probiotics with unique abilities to reduce intestinal inflammation.
Probiotics alter the intestinal environment, producing beneficial short-chain fatty acids and deconjugating bile acids, and limit the growth of pathogenic bacteria by direct competition. They also exert potent anti-inflammatory effects, controlling inflammatory cell messenger (cytokine) production by interacting with lymphoid tissue in the lining of the intestinal tract. This immune modulatory effect also weakens the tissue hypersensitivity characteristic of IBS.
Evidence of benefit from probiotics is the strongest for the treatment of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea and the resolution of infectious gastroenteritis. Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria subspecies are able to deconjugate and absorb bile acids, potentially reducing fluid and mucus secretions in the colon that may contribute to functional diarrhoea or IBS with diarrhoea.

OTHER SUPPORT FACTORS FOR IBS:
Digestive enzymes assist the body with the breakdown of food into nutrients. Once broken down, the proteins in the enzymes help with the digestion of the food and the absorption of the nutrients. There are approximately 22 different digestive enzymes produced in the human body, all falling into one of the three enzyme categories and each working on a different type of food. Proteins are digested by protease enzymes, carbohydrates are digested by amylase enzymes and fats are digested by lipase enzymes. These are all in the Green Vibrance formula.

Vit B Complex and Vitamin C are helpful for a healthy nervous system, and Super Natural C – from whole food nutrients helps to heal and repair tissue is all parts of the body, strengthens capillaries and is a natural anti-histaminne.

GREEN VIBRANCE – VERSION 14:
Green Vibrance contains 25 Billion pro-biotics in 12 different strains per serving. Probiotics alter the intestinal environment, producing beneficial short-chain fatty acids & deconjugating bile acids, & limit the growth of pathogenic bacteria. The probiotics are supported by prebiotics in the form of fructo‐oligosaccharides & large molecular weight larch arabinogalactans. Digestive tonics: ginger root, cayenne & gentian root. Chlorophyll will also help heal intestinal lesions & suppress undesirable residents. Warn clients of the possible detox effects of the Green Vibrance (headache, a looser stool, fatigue)

SUPER NATURAL C:
This 100% plant source Vit C complex is provided by Acerola Berry, Amla Fruit & Camu-Camu (richest source of Vit C, 30 – 60 x more than citrus) & 16 botanical extracts.

Super Natural Calcium not only delivers 700 mg (1 RDA serving) of elemental calcium in a highly bio available form, but it is also complexed with proteins, carbohydrates & other essential & non-essential nutrients & vitamins, Vit B12, iron & calcium.

KREBS ZINC:
Zinc is extremely important for digestive health. It is required for all digestive enzyme production. It is also required to rebuild the fast-growing intestinal tissue & for the production of bile, & liver & pancreatic secretions. Ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, yeast infections, colitis, & many other digestive problems often have to do with low zinc.
