Synthetic Calcium supplements are made by adding inexpensive purified calcium oxide to an acid solution (e.g. Citric acid, carbonic acid, lactic acid etc). The problem with this is when Calcium is broken down by the body the acid is liberated creating and acid load in the bloodstream. This was observed by Dr Robert Recker in the early 1980’s when his study on the bioavailability of calcium carbonate demonstrated that the acid load of the carbonic acid had shut down the bone remodelling process. In the end the carbonic acid had been neutralised by the body’s buffering system, the absorbed calcium was eliminated in the urine and there was no biological benefit.
The calcium in Super Natural Calcium is supplied by Hydrilla, a organic rooted, freshwater plant that contains 15% elemental calcium on a dry weight basis, and by a calcareous algae from the ocean, Lithothamnium sp, which contains 32% elemental calcium as well as 72 other trace nutrients.
Calcium in plant form is more compatible with human digestion and metabolism than mineral compounds synthesised in the laboratory and inorganic forms of calcium i.e. coral calcium. Therefore lower dosages are required. The body’s digestion and metabolism recognise calcium-containing molecular structures delivered by food as a result of adaptation to our food supply over millions of years.
Who needs to take Super Natural Calcium?
Age-related changes in digestive and hormonal function, which we have not yet been able to conquer, indicate that women by age 30 and men by age 40 will each slip into “negative calcium balance.” This is the state where a person loses more calcium through the urine that is being absorbed from the digestive tract. In order to maintain required blood levels of calcium, the absorptive shortfall associated with aging creates a daily net loss of bodily calcium that eventually reduces bone mass over time. Therefore, it is critically important that a young person build a deep and rich stores of calcium in their bones while digestive capabilities and hormonal functions are running at their peak prior to reaching the early stages of middle age.
It is vital to take Super Natural Boron and Vitamin D3 (or get enough sun) along with Super Natural Calcium (or any calcium). This is why…
Newer research on vitamin D has revealed a nearly ubiquitous influence on the health of the human organism. We used to think that vitamin D was essential only to bone health. But now we know it supports immunity, resists cancer, protects the skin and brain, and apparently protects unborn infants from developing multiple sclerosis in their adult years. As these new roles for vitamin D have been identified, and the old belief that vitamin D could damage the liver at high doses has been debunked, proposed recommended daily intakes for the nutrient have increased.
Infants: 1,000 i.u. per day
Children & teenagers: 2,000 i.u. per day
Adults: 2,000 to 4,000 i.u. per day
Seniors: 4,000 to 10,000 i.u. per day
Boron’s essentiality to the health and formation of bone is indirect. Boron is necessary to both create and sustain hormonal homeostasis among dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), androgens, oestrogens, and the hormonal form of vitamin D, calcitriol. Without sufficient boron in the diet, proper ratios of these related hormones will become unbalanced. We know that the androgen, testosterone, and calcitriol, as well as oestrogen, help drive calcium into bone.
Boron helps maintain the proper balance. Without it, conversion, synthesis and activity of the hormones necessary to build strong bone will lag.
